POLLING & ANALYTICS

Parks design for diverse and resilient communities

Washington State Parks Foundation, Washington State Parks and the Polling & Open Data Initiative at the University of Washington are seeking participants from the following communities:

  • Young BIPOC individuals aged 18-25 who are new to outdoor recreation
  • Individuals at the intersection of BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities
  • Group leaders from BIPOC-centered organizations and/or group leaders who facilitate introductory outdoor experiences for the BIPOC community
  • BIPOC adults and families who are unfamiliar with state park visits and recreation and/or camping and cabins
 
 

to participate in our study in one of three ways: a brief surveyvolunteering to visit a state park, or joining for journey mapping and a design charette!

POLLING & ANALYTICS

Perceptions of pandemic-motivated discrimination among Asian American students

This survey is aimed towards East and Southeast Asian American UW students and will cover the following topics: 
  • COVID-19 related experienced and perceived racism
  • General discrimination and race relations
  • Assessment of UW’s involvement in discouraging racial discrimination
 

Population: East and Southeast Asian American students

In partnership with: Taiwanese Student Association, Korean Student Association, Khmer Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association, and other organizations at the University of Washington

Survey group: Students on mailing lists of select East and Southeast Asian American cultural student organizations

ANALYTICS

Understanding k-12 extracurricular experiences to enable providers tailor opportunities.

In partnership with Big Picture Learning, this project aims to support high school internship opportunities by analyzing data form the ImBlaze app.

Using student entry logs (over 200,000 of them), internship requests, expansion suggestions, and more relevant data, we are deploying Natural Langauge Processing (NLP) and other explorative techniques to look into insightful trends, as well as technical data gaps at ImBlaze.

ANALYTICS

What can we learn from the City of Seattle’s Ecological Restoration Projects?

We are partnering with the City of Seattle’s Green Seattle Partnership, a restoration initiative to preserve and maintain parkland forestry across Seattle.

This collaborative project is exploring data at the initative hoping to improve restoration and volutneer programs run, as well as improve data warehousing by assessing current architecture.

The University of Washington has one of the country’s largest dedicated schools of informatics, a field of rising importance. In this poll, we will survey students on what they value in their informatics classes, the opportunities that students have been taking, future areas, and specific areas of interest, and particularly how they vary by class year and gender.
